LE SSERAFIM is a five-member multinational girl group comprising Sakura, Kim Chaewon, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha and Hong Eunchae. Signed to Source Music, a label under Hibe (pronounced "Hive"), South Korea's dominant music conglomerate, the group debuted on 2nd May 2022 with their first mini-album, *FEARLESS*. The group's name was coined by Bang Si-hyuk, Hibe's chairman, as an anagram of the phrase "I'M FEARLESS." The embedded word "Seraphim" — the highest order of angels in the Old Testament, drawn from the Hebrew — was chosen deliberately: the group's stated ethos is to press forward without fear, indifferent to the world's gaze.
The rise
From the outset, LE SSERAFIM attracted intense public attention, though not always for comfortable reasons. On the eve of their debut, allegations of school bullying surfaced against member Kim Garam, disrupting what was meant to be a clean launch for the full five-member line-up. The group eventually steadied itself and, through a succession of hits — *ANTIFRAGILE*, *UNFORGIVEN*, *EASY* and *CRAZY* — carved out a distinctive identity among the so-called "fourth generation" of K-pop girl groups, built on commanding stagecraft and an overarching narrative universe known as "Crimson Heart." Among all groups that debuted in 2022, they are the first to have accumulated nine music videos surpassing 100 million views. At the Melon Music Awards, they became the only girl group to fill an eleven-minute slot with pure performance — no pre-recorded video interlude — earning the Best Performance prize.
The release of their second full-length studio album, *PUREFLOW pt.1*, in May this year marked a new chapter. The group launched their second world tour, "2026 LE SSERAFIM Tour PUREFLOW," at Inspire Arena in Incheon in July, before moving on to five Japanese cities — Osaka, Kanagawa, Shizuoka, Miyagi and Fukuoka — and headlining a standalone set at Summer Sonic 2026.
In the news
The schedule grows more demanding in the second half of the year. In September, the group will perform at the closing ceremony of BlizzCon 2026, hosted by Blizzard Entertainment — their first invitation back to the event in three years. A North American tour follows, running through 8th October and beginning in Los Angeles. Sandwiched between dates, they will become the first K-pop girl group to appear on the line-up of the iHeartRadio Music Festival. The tour then extends into Europe — London, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen and Berlin — marking the group's first-ever standalone European tour since debut. A digital single, *ICONIC BY MISTAKE*, recorded alongside fellow Hibe acts ILLIT and KATSEYE, continues to perform well commercially.
The challenge ahead
LE SSERAFIM's relentless global push feeds directly into the financial performance of their parent company. Hibe reported record quarterly results in the second quarter of this year, with revenue of 1.45 trillion won (roughly $1.05 billion) and operating profit of 170.9 billion won — the highest figures in the company's history for a single quarter. Management attributed the result to a confluence of factors: the ongoing BTS world tour, combined with simultaneous comebacks and activity from label artists including Tomorrow X Together, LE SSERAFIM, TWS, ILLIT and Corts.
Hibe has made no secret of its ambition to reduce its structural dependence on BTS by building out a portfolio of artists across multiple labels. Within that strategy, LE SSERAFIM is widely regarded as one of the most critical tests of whether the model can work. Yet sceptics note that BTS remains overwhelmingly dominant within Hibe's revenue mix, and that inter-label tensions — most notably the acrimonious dispute between subsidiary Ador and its former chief Min Hee-jin — have demonstrated that the multi-label structure carries its own systemic risks.
As LE SSERAFIM continues to secure slots at the world's most prestigious festival stages and builds a proven commercial record on its own terms, the central question is whether that momentum can be channelled into a genuinely independent profit centre — one that stands apart from, rather than merely complementing, the Hibe mothership.
