IVE is a six-member girl group comprising Ahn Yu-jin, Gaeul, Rei, Jang Won-young, Liz, and Leeseo. The group debuted in December 2021 under Starship Entertainment. The name "IVE" is a contraction of "I have," expressing a self-assured conviction that each member is worthy of love simply by virtue of existing. Their fanbase goes by the name DIVE.
Rise to the Top
From the outset, IVE was positioned as a group that arrived fully formed. Rather than emerging through the survival audition programmes that typically incubate K-pop acts, the group debuted with a polished, complete image — and promptly delivered on the promise. Their very first release captured both mass-market appeal and cultural buzz, establishing IVE as front-runners among the so-called "fourth-generation" crop of Korean girl groups.
Since "LOVE DIVE" in 2022, every album the group has released has sold over one million copies. Their fourth mini-album, *IVE SECRET*, released in August last year, extended that streak to seven consecutive million-sellers — a record in its own right. Along the way, a string of hit tracks — "REBEL HEART," "ATTITUDE," and "XOXZ" — have brought home 20 trophies from Korean music broadcast programmes, beginning with a Perfect All-Kill (a sweep of all domestic real-time and daily music charts) for "REBEL HEART."
That momentum has carried beyond South Korea. In October last year, IVE launched their second world tour, *SHOW WHAT I AM*, opening in Seoul at the KSPO Dome. By April this year the tour had expanded to encompass Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania, including a confirmed date at the Kyocera Dome Osaka in Japan.
Latest Moves
On 9th February, IVE returned with the music video for "BANG BANG," the lead single from their fifth mini-album — their first new material in roughly six months since *IVE SECRET*. Starship Entertainment had signalled the delay was deliberate, stating ahead of the release that the team was "focused on final preparations to deliver an album of even greater quality." The comeback was timed to run alongside the ongoing world tour, weaving domestic promotional activities and international dates into a single, packed schedule.
On 22nd March, the group followed up with their fourth fan concert, *DIVE into IVE*, which was simultaneously live-streamed for audiences at home and abroad. Now into their fourth year as a group, IVE continue to sustain a relentless cycle of new releases, world touring, and fan engagement.
What Comes Next
The central challenge facing IVE is whether they can sustain their million-seller streak and touring success long enough to transcend their founding identity as the group that debuted perfectly polished. The longer the run of million-selling albums, the higher expectations — and the greater the pressure — for every subsequent release. Whether "BANG BANG" can extend the streak to eight consecutive million-sellers is the most immediate question for observers to watch.
Over the longer term, IVE's fortunes are bound up with Starship Entertainment's broader ambitions to build a credible stable of girl-group acts. What distinguishes IVE from many peers is that, rather than riding an initial wave of novelty that fades with time, the group has continued to set new commercial benchmarks with each release. How much further they can extend that upward trajectory will have a direct bearing on the label's financial performance in the years ahead.
