At 4pm on 24th February 2026, two IVE songs sat side by side on Melon's real-time chart. "BLACKHOLE" — the title track of the group's second full-length album, *REVIVE+*, released the previous day — stood at number four on the HOT100. "BANG BANG", a pre-release single that had dropped a fortnight earlier, held the top spot on both the HOT100 and the TOP100. The song that was supposed to warm up the audience had overtaken the main event. That moment proved to be the starting point for what became the longest consecutive daily chart-topping run of any song released in Korea this year.
"My choice" over a Western swing intro
"BANG BANG" was released at 6pm on 9th February. The track runs for two minutes and 58 seconds, pairing an EDM and electronic production base with a Western swing-inflected introduction. The driving beat and brisk structure were conceived to project IVE's self-assurance. Lyrical credits go to Seo Ji-eum, Hwang Yu-bin (XYXX), Seola of girl group WJSN, and IVE member Jang Won-young. Seo Ji-eum is the lyricist behind IVE's signature earlier hits "ELEVEN", "LOVE DIVE" and "After LIKE". Thematically, the song is about pressing ahead with one's own choices, undeterred by outside opinion or rumour.
The visual treatment gives the Western genre an ironic twist. Rather than the arid American frontier landscapes typical of the genre, the teaser swaps the desert for contemporary settings, replaces the sheriff's badge with a modern police uniform, and substitutes the crack of a gunshot with the flash of a camera. The music video was directed by Bang Jae-yeop. The agency announced the pre-release on 21st January, unveiled the title through a concept film on the 26th, and offered a preview via TikTok on 2nd February.
When the warm-up act tops the bill
*REVIVE+*, which arrived on 23rd February, is a 12-track album. Beyond the two title tracks, it includes "Hide and Seek", "Malicious Code", "Firework" and "Hot Coffee", alongside solo tracks from each member. The album was billed as expanding IVE's narrative from the individual self to a collective "we". Yet on the morning after the comeback, the song sitting highest on the charts was not the album's centrepiece but the pre-release from two weeks prior. "BANG BANG" had already charted at number two on Melon's weekly chart for the period of 16th–22nd February before climbing to the top.
On 1st March it became the first song released this year to achieve a Perfect All-Kill (PAK) — a clean sweep of all major Korean streaming charts simultaneously. It was IVE's sixth PAK overall. The group had completed a hat-trick of music programme wins on 28th February with a victory on *Show! Music Core*, and issued a brief statement through their agency expressing gratitude that a song involving many creative experiments had resonated with so many listeners.
A record of sustained dominance
"BANG BANG" claimed first place on music broadcast programmes eight times; with "BLACKHOLE" adding one further win, the two songs together accumulated nine programme trophies. IVE's all-time total of such awards reached 83. On Melon's weekly chart, the track held the top position for six consecutive weeks. It did the same on Genie's weekly chart. In March's monthly tallies, it swept both Melon and Genie. According to Melon, the song held its daily number-one ranking for 40 days — the longest such run among any song released in the first half of the year. It also charted on the Billboard Global 200 for four consecutive weeks, peaking at number 61.
How it differs from "LOVE DIVE"
A comparison with IVE's earlier signature songs is instructive. "LOVE DIVE" reached the top of Melon's annual chart for 2022 within a year of the group's debut; "I AM" came third in the annual ranking for 2023. Those songs are remembered as the defining singles of their respective years — cultural reference points in their own right. "BANG BANG" is a different kind of success: less a standalone monument than a locomotive that pulled the entire album campaign forward. The pre-release primed listeners' ears, after which the official title track carried the album's broader narrative. It is also worth noting that KIKI, a group under the same management, was competing for chart supremacy in the same period.
What followed
IVE launched their world tour, *SHOW WHAT I AM*, in Kuala Lumpur on 4th April, subsequently travelling through Asia, Oceania and North America, and performing at the Kyocera Dome in Osaka and Tokyo Dome in Japan. The North American leg expanded to eight cities. Last month the group released a new pre-release single on the 19th, followed by a mini-album, *Looks Can Kill*, on the 26th. Eight months after its release, "BANG BANG" continues to rank among the top songs on Korea's major streaming charts.
In brief
"BANG BANG" was never the face of the album, yet it set the conditions for the entire campaign's success. IVE's chart victories this year began the moment a pre-release single stood above the title track it was only supposed to precede.
