LG Energy Solution announced on the 22nd that its cumulative global patent filings have exceeded 100,000—a figure the company says demonstrates the depth of its research and development capabilities in battery technology.

The patents span the full breadth of the company's core technical domains, including cell design, materials science, manufacturing processes, and battery management systems (BMS).

LG Energy Solution has concentrated its patent portfolio in the world's principal battery markets: the United States, Europe, China, and South Korea. The strategy appears designed to establish a technological edge over global rivals while pre-empting potential intellectual-property disputes—an increasingly common battleground in an industry where Chinese manufacturers have rapidly closed the gap with their Korean and Japanese counterparts.

The company said it intends to step up investment in next-generation battery technologies and further strengthen its patent position going forward.
