Samsung's Bespoke AI Combo: Wash and Dry in 69 Minutes

Introduction

Samsung Electronics launched its 2026-model Bespoke AI Combo, an integrated washer-dryer, on 26th March. The appliance handles both washing and drying in a single unit, eliminating the need for separate machines. Since its debut in 2024, it has rapidly established itself as a staple wedding-gift purchase among newlyweds in South Korea. Samsung says the share of washing-machine buyers opting for the combo model has risen from 35% in 2024 to 46% last year, and the company expects that figure to surpass 60% this year.

Specifications

The 2026 model offers a wash capacity of 25kg and a drying capacity of 20kg — the largest of any integrated washer-dryer currently available in the South Korean market. Samsung has added a "booster heat exchanger" alongside the main heat exchanger, increasing drying capacity by 2kg over the previous generation. A "pre-heat" function, which begins raising the drum's internal temperature during the spin cycle, further improves drying efficiency. Together, these improvements allow a full wash-and-dry cycle to be completed in as little as 69 minutes, according to the company.

AI capabilities have also been meaningfully upgraded. The unit features an enhanced version of Bixby — Samsung's voice assistant — built on a large language model (LLM), enabling natural conversational control and in-context usage guidance. Additional AI features include "AI Custom+", which detects fabric weight, type, and soiling level to automatically select the optimal wash and dry settings; an AI vibration-and-noise reduction system that monitors floor conditions to minimise sound and vibration during high-speed spinning; and "Auto Open Door+", which automatically opens the door after a cycle ends to release residual moisture. The lint filter has been redesigned with a dual-mesh structure and can be detached with a single touch. Alongside the existing 7-inch touchscreen model, Samsung has added a new variant featuring a 2.8-inch screen with a dial-based control interface.

The machine is available in five colours — Dark Steel, Silver Steel, Greige, White, and Black Caviar — with prices ranging from 3,199,000 won to 4,299,000 won (approximately £1,750 to £2,350) depending on specification.

Strengths and Limitations

The Bespoke AI Combo's principal appeal is space efficiency and time saving. Eliminating the need for two separate appliances makes it particularly suited to compact urban flats and smaller homes. The 69-minute completion time represents a clear convenience advantage over separate machines. The class-leading capacity will also appeal to households that regularly tackle large loads.

The drawbacks, however, are equally clear. The entry price of around 3.2m won is substantially higher than the combined cost of a conventional separate washer and dryer. There is also a mismatch between wash and dry capacity: at 25kg and 20kg respectively, a full wash load cannot always be dried in a single cycle, requiring the drying stage to be run in batches. As with all integrated units, drying and washing cannot run simultaneously, which means households with heavy laundry demands may find a separate setup more practical overall. The door rubber seal and lint filter are prone to accumulating moisture and lint, requiring regular maintenance.

Verdict

The Bespoke AI Combo is squarely aimed at newlyweds and small households where space is at a premium. Its market-leading capacity and 69-minute cycle time are genuine differentiators — but they come accompanied by a premium price tag and the inherent constraints of an all-in-one design. For those unable to dedicate space to two separate machines, it is well worth considering. For households with heavy or frequent laundry needs, a direct comparison with a separate washer-dryer combination remains advisable before committing.
