Shinhan Investment Securities raised its target price for PSK (KOSDAQ: 319660), a South Korean semiconductor equipment maker, from ₩160,000 to ₩190,000 on 12th October — a 19% upgrade — while reiterating its buy recommendation. Based on the share price of ₩145,100 as of 8th October, the implied upside is 30.9%.
Third quarter beats expectations
Shinhan estimates PSK will report third-quarter revenue (July–September 2026) of ₩196.8bn and operating profit of ₩57.7bn — up 17.5% and 14.9% respectively from the previous quarter. Both figures exceed market consensus (revenue ₩179.8bn, operating profit ₩52.7bn) by roughly 9.4% and 9.5%. The brokerage attributes the outperformance to an accelerated equipment-delivery schedule at domestic customers' P4 and M15X fabrication plants, as well as a shorter replacement cycle for components as the installed base expands.
Revenue is expected to surpass ₩200bn in the fourth quarter. Shinhan has accordingly revised its full-year 2026 estimates upward by 3.9% for revenue (to ₩723.5bn) and 3.6% for operating profit (to ₩206.5bn). Compared with 2025, those figures represent growth of 58.2% and 133.3% respectively.
Margins expanding at an unusual pace
PSK's trajectory stands well above the industry average. From a base of ₩398.1bn in revenue and ₩83.9bn in operating profit in 2024, the company is on course to nearly double its top line and more than double its bottom line within two years. Operating margins are forecast to improve markedly — from 21.1% in 2024 and 19.4% in 2025 to 28.5% in 2026 — a rate of profitability improvement that is exceptional among semiconductor equipment companies.
2027 outlook: North American capacity expansion adds another leg
The medium-term case rests on a wave of semiconductor fabrication investment in North America. Shinhan projects 2027 revenue of ₩872.6bn and operating profit of ₩242.0bn, representing further year-on-year growth of 20.6% and 17.2% respectively. The brokerage sees a fortuitous convergence: a strengthening capital-expenditure cycle among South Korean memory chipmakers such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, coinciding with a broad push by global chipmakers to expand production capacity in the United States.
PSK's near-oligopolistic position in the photoresist (PR) strip equipment market is seen as the critical factor in capturing this opportunity. PR strip tools remove photoresist material after lithography — a process step that becomes more frequent and demanding as chip geometries shrink. Crucially, PSK's main competitors in this niche are Chinese manufacturers. As chipmakers in the United States seek to diversify their supply chains away from Chinese vendors, PSK stands to gain market share. Shinhan stated explicitly that "the growth in North American capital expenditure will be accompanied by an expansion of PSK's share in the PR strip market."
Valuation: a substantial premium to history
The new ₩190,000 target is derived by applying a price-to-earnings multiple of 28 times to Shinhan's 2027 earnings-per-share estimate of ₩6,832 — up from the 25 times previously used, benchmarked against the average PER of South Korea's largest front-end semiconductor equipment companies by market capitalisation. This represents a considerable premium to PSK's own historical average PER of 10.8 times (2019–2025), signalling that a great deal of future growth is already priced in.
The market has certainly been enthusiastic: PSK's share price has surged 321.8% over the past year, outperforming the KOSDAQ index by 303.8 percentage points over the same period. That re-rating means the stock now demands sustained earnings surprises to justify further gains.
Risks worth watching
Investors should weigh several risks. Semiconductor equipment is a cyclical industry prone to sharp downturns once a spending peak passes. Any delay or reduction in capital-expenditure plans by global chip manufacturers could break the earnings momentum. The stock also trades at 6.1 times forecast book value for 2026, leaving limited margin for error on asset-based metrics.
PSK is also developing a dry-cleaning equipment line that could penetrate leading-edge chip production processes — a potentially significant opportunity. However, the product is still undergoing qualification testing, and its contribution to earnings remains uncertain.
On the balance sheet, the picture is reassuring. Net cash is expected to reach ₩256.6bn by end-2026, with a debt-to-equity ratio of just 13.4%. The company has steadily raised its dividend, from ₩200 per share in 2023 to ₩680 in 2025, with a further increase to ₩980 per share expected in 2026.
